Saw Jake Gyllenhaal at breakfast this morning.  And yes, he is that pretty in real life, even while totally scruffy and wearing a red flannel shirt with the collar turned up.

After that everything seems anti climatic doesn't it?  kidding.

Actually, after all the fear of my post last week, I've been doing better physically and mentally - even though i still have a tiny bit of a cough, it's really like a handful of times a day instead of a couple of times an hour, and while i've still been a little up and down, I haven't needed to remind myself of the good things each day because they were occurring to me, mostly.  Tuesday I managed to finish one of my two papers and extend it to the point that it'll count for two assignments, and got the reading for Wednesday's class done.  Wednesday was an incredibly long day - woke up at 8 and started writing / studying, did class and then helped out with a movie screening for my professor.  The best thing was that she'd ordered Lebanese finger foods for the reception, and I got to take home the super duper fabulous hummus and tabbouleh and other things I don't know the name of but that were nummmmmmmy.

Thursday I was so cracked out because of the many-houred Wednesday that I ended up half-heartedly working on my linguistics mid term while main lining Scrubs.

Oh Netflix instant view, I love and hate you.  Since December, since I don't have an actual TV, I've been blowing through seasons of things --  I've watched all but the last three episodes of Stargate Atlantis, every single episode of Battlestar Gallactica, both seasons of Spartacus (which, seriously, people, if you are NOT watching you should because it is utter, utter, utter fantastic id-crack).  Also, every ep of Eureka (which i love for it's dumb geekyness, Firefly, Buffy Season 3 (hey, the classics are classics), Lie to Me, Terminator: the SCC, and 30 Rock.  It's really nice not to have to wait for the next episode to come out each week, and that little "next episode" button is just ... evil, pure evil.

It has also been lovely to not watch oceans of reality TV.

Yesterday was beautiful, if a little crazy, because I actually motivated to go down to campus after working in the morning on the mid-term, found eight books that will help with my final paper for one class (research, it's fun, sometimes!), saw some friends who meet for a reading group on Friday afternoons (Spinoza! he was a rebel!) and managed to resist the lure of offered cigarettes, and then came home and made the best sandwich ever for dinner after actually taking the dog for a longer walk.  Now, granted, I was up until 3 in the morning finishing said mid-term and turning it in, but whatever, it's DONE.

and if you want the recipe for delicious sandwich - full disclosure, there is meat, so vegetarians this will not be appetizing )

Today was breakfast with one of my favorite girls, and it was good beyond the start sighting - and I actually got to show her my house and she approved and we got to catch up in person for the first time in months.  Tonight I'm heading over to hang out with friends too.  It's a good weekend.

In the best kind of 'when it rains it pours' kind of scenario, last night my journal got discovered by [livejournal.com profile] ask_captianjack , [livejournal.com profile] ask_aboutcoffee , [livejournal.com profile] ask_arealdoctor , [livejournal.com profile] timeagency , [livejournal.com profile] gwen_e_cooper , [livejournal.com profile] ask_janet , [livejournal.com profile] ask_exterminate , and [livejournal.com profile] ask_adeaddoctor ... and you were all AWESOME.  I looked up after a quiet day of cleaning to find my inbox filled with comments.  That had all come in in the space of 10 minutes.  The deluge!

I only wish I could have played longer, but sadly had to leave for a dinner with the boyfriend's parents.

But, I tried to make this offer in the comments and I'll make it again here - for any in the Askworld who would like to read my paper on it, I'm happy to share!  Just PM me with your email, because I would absolutely adore comments, feedback, thoughts, discussion.  The only reason why I'm not posting it publicly to my journal is that I do hope to publish it at some point, and it's easier to do that if I don't post publicly here first.

and now, for the restaurant reviews?

for tuesday at bacaro )

for thursday at cobras y matadors )

for friday at susan feniger's street )

And since then?  I've done absolutely nothing.  Ha.  It is really nice to finally be on vacation except for paper rewriting / reworking.

Ok, so, the point of this visit was to celebrate Neil's parent's 39th wedding annaversary.  And since they're foodies, his dad picked this american-french restaurant in Santa Monica called Melisse.  It's got a couple of Michelin stars.  It's a place where you have to dress for dinner.  They had small stools they put by our chairs so we didn't have to rest our purses on the ground.  They actually tried to serve the dishes simultaneously (there were little glitches here and there, but you can't fault them for trying).  Our waiter was brash and kind of adorable, our somellier had the loveliest deep voice, and it was .. without a doubt on of the loveliest dining experiences i've ever had.

here's what we had in case you're curious )

Even though there are smaller portions with a tasting menu I'm amazed we were able to waddle out of there.  Oh, and that doesn't even include the champagne, then white wine, then red wine that we all put away.  Ooofta.  But amazing, nonetheless.

Other than that I haven't really been all that productive this weekend, so I've got to get to it.

And remember, if you have a Spander Story and you might want a fic banner, I still have spaces open so PLEASE PLEASE REQUEST ONE HERE!

Let me tell you about my fabulous fabulous fabulous last meal out in Austin with my advisor .... MMmmmmmmmmmmm )

We took the pictures off the walls today, and packed them up in bubble wrap, and we're waiting for the chinese delivery.

I packed most of my closet, so the clothes in the dirty laundry will be my wardrobe for the next week or so.  I can't believe the contents of my closet (including shoes) fit into one large and one medium box (not that it's a bad thing).

There's still a ton to do (kitchen, anyone?) but we have this weekend to do it all, and it will get done (heck, it has to get done).  It's a strange thing that we're sending 2/3rds of our stuff off in a POD that gets picked up on Tuesday, but we wont' actually get it back until the week after.  The bed goes in there, the couch, and we're planning on sitting on the papa-san and pillows very soon.  Bohemian living at it's best!
